How many episodes does Furious have? Eight episodes in total. Three arrived on premiere day (July 27) and the remaining five release weekly on Mondays, finishing with episode 8 on August 31. And yes - the lead is Emmy Rossum, who played Fiona in Shameless; this is her return to a leading TV role.

Furious lands on Hulu today, and the two things most people want to know before pressing play are not in the trailer: how many episodes are coming and when, and whether any of it actually happened. Both answers are below.

The Full Release Schedule

EpisodeDate
1, 2 and 3Monday, July 27 — all three at once
4Monday, August 3
5Monday, August 10
6Monday, August 17
7Monday, August 24
8 — finaleMonday, August 31

So it is neither a full binge nor a pure weekly drip. Hulu is front-loading three episodes to let the setup land, then holding the rest back — the release pattern streamers now use when they want a show discussed for five weeks rather than consumed in one night.

Is It Based on a True Story?

No. This is the question every new crime drama gets, and here the answer is clean: Furious is fiction. It was created by Elizabeth Meriwether and is inspired by the 1987 film Black Widow — a movie, not a case file. No real killer, no real investigation.

The confusion is understandable. Meriwether’s recent Hulu work — The Dropout and Dying for Sex — was drawn from real people, so viewers reasonably assume the pattern continues. It does not.

The Premise

Alice Black, an FBI agent, goes undercover to catch a woman who marries lonely millionaires — and then they die. The hunter and the hunted move along parallel paths toward their own versions of justice, and the further their lives intertwine, the harder it gets to say who is on which side.

The Cast

  • Emmy Rossum — FBI agent Alice Black. She also executive produces, and this is her return to a leading television role.
  • Lola Petticrew — Catherine, the calculating killer at the centre of the case.
  • Scoot McNairy
  • Quincy Tyler Bernstine
  • Jake Lacy

Where to Watch

Hulu, exclusively. There is no separate broadcast run, so a Hulu subscription (or a bundle that includes it) is the only route.
