Announcements like this are usually just names. This one leaks a structure, and it is worth spelling out.
Mr. Sinister is not a generic villain. His defining obsession in the comics is mutant bloodlines — specifically the Summers and Grey lines. He exists in the mythology because of Cyclops and Jean Grey.
Marvel announced Sinister, Cyclops and Jean Grey together, in the same reveal, at the start of a new continuity. That is not a coincidence, and it points at the material the film is likely built on rather than a straightforward origin story.
The absence is the story. Wolverine was not announced. Nor were several other major X-Men. For the single most commercially valuable character in the franchise, that is a deliberate choice rather than an oversight — a name held back for its own announcement, or a role not yet decided.
