If you hold a Fidelity account and have been ignoring a settlement notice, this is the last useful day to act. The claim window on the $2.5 million Fidelity Investments data breach settlement closes on July 27, 2026.

Deadline: claims must be submitted online or postmarked no later than July 27, 2026. Mailing it on the 27th is fine; mailing it on the 28th is not.

What Happened

Between August 17 and 19, 2024, Fidelity detected suspicious activity on its network and determined that a targeted attack had reached customer data files. Those files held the personal information of 77,099 people, including names, Social Security numbers, financial account information and driver’s licence details — the combination that makes identity theft straightforward.

Who Can Claim

  • US residents who were notified of the breach by Fidelity Investments.
  • Anyone whose account and routing numbers were exposed in the breach — even if they were never notified. This is the group most likely to miss out, because they are not expecting a letter.

What You Can Get

OptionAmountProof needed?
Pro rata cash payment~$100No
California resident top-up+$50No
Documented lossesup to $5,000Yes — receipts, statements, records
Credit monitoring2 years, freeNo

The $100 is pro rata — a share of the fund — so the final figure moves with the number of valid claims. The $5,000 tier is a reimbursement ceiling, not a payout everyone gets; you need to actually document losses traceable to the breach.

How to File

The fastest route is the official claims site, FidelityDataSettlement.com. A paper form can be mailed instead, as long as it is postmarked by July 27.

⚠️ As with any settlement: the administrator never charges a fee to file, and any site demanding payment to “submit your claim for you” is not the official one.

Worth Doing Even for $100

Two years of credit monitoring has real value when Social Security numbers were among the exposed fields — that is data that does not expire and cannot be changed like a password. Even claimants who take the no-proof option get that protection.

Two other settlements are open right now: the Amazon Prime FTC settlement also closes July 27, while the Costco email settlement runs to August 24 — though that one is Washington residents only.
